|September 29||3:00 PM PST||Women, Peace and Security||This talk will address the foundations of the Women, Peace & Security (WPS) framework as grounded in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000). That framework calls for the increased inclusion of women in addressing security issues and for gendered perspectives in policy making, based on the pillars of participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery. Factors inhibiting the accomplishment of WPS goals include structural and cultural prejudices including manifestations through violence. Based on the US Women, Peace & Security Act (2017) and subsequent national and organizational strategies and implementation plans, including the DOD WPS Strategy & Implementation Plan released in June 2020, the role of the US military - nationally and globally - in implementation is critical.|
